Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newspaper entitled March on Washington April 25, 1993! published June 1992. The front page contains a letter to members of the LGBTQ community reminding them about the 1987 March on Washington. It also highlights the work still needed and the reasons to March again on April 25th. The newspaper highlights the organizing work already done as well as requesting information for any other events being planned so that they are included in the overall offerings.
