Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Baker purchased silk, wheat, beef and other provisions from Robert Livingston, Jr., and also performed labor at Livingston's furnace. With ALS from James Elliott to Mr. Jansen, requesting that Jansen pay John Baker the balance of the above account, and charge the same to Ancram. Written at the Manor of Livingston.
