Wood and copper engraving of a battle in the Cheat Mountain Campaign, Robert E. Lee's first field command of the Civil War. This document is of Confederate origin and shows Camp Bartow, the Confederate position, in great detail, marking buildings roads and trenches. It also shows the Union position, with an orchard, residence, and artillery. The map notes where the Yankees were repulsed and depicts the headquarters of General H. R. Jackson. The Battle of Greenbrier River (Battle of Camp Bartow) was on 3 October 1861. A.T. McRae enrolled in the 1st Volunteers Regiment of Georgia on 18 March 1861. At the time he drew this map he was in the "Quitman Guards" of the regiment. He was discharged on 1 January 1862. The map was engraved by J. Baumgarten, who worked out of Richmind, Virginia.
