Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partial printed budget that the Continental Congress ordered the Committee on Finance to draft. Recommends a loan of 20 million dollars sterling from Europe and outlines the financial relationship with the states. Also recommends poll taxes and duties. With manuscript notes of Josiah Bartlett on the front and docket of "M. Bartlett" on verso.
