Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

First annual volume of a periodical journal that resembles the Gentleman's Magazine and London Magazine in format and style. 12 monthly issues. Includes many engraved plates. Indexed at the end of the volume. Printed for A. Hamilton, Jr. Book is boxed but original leather cover has red rot.

The Town and Country Magazine began in January 1769 and ceased December 1796 with volume 28.
