Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Arnaz responds to Kohl's solicitation letter. Arnaz discusses his struggles to deal with fear and anxiety, which initially led him to believe "personal gain eases personal pain." He later discovered the real gains in life are spiritual, and that when "we find God, we also find we were only imprisoned by our own ignorance."
