Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This letter is addressed to Mary, Margaret, and Paul, and is another Crist family update from Bertha. (possibly Mary's sister and Margarets Aunt) Bertha mentions that she had been sick but is better as well as Ellens death. She also sends thanks for the christmas gift of stationary. Bertha also encourages that Margaret takes it easy and regains her strength.
