Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

William Whitaker certifies that he received a sum of money from William Sawyer for a pew in the Plaistow Meeting House, formerly belonging "to Isaac Snow Late Deceased the pew being the Back Side of the meeting House at the left hand of the pulpit," between the pews of Nathaniel Kimball and Joseph Smith. Also signed by Theodore Cushing and John Brickett. This deed was contained within (but not bound in) GLC01626.01.
