Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs that he has approved H. R. 5866 which enables the United States to cooperate with Berlin to use atomic energy peacefully. Interprets language in the Act and informs that it is his intention to have the Secretary of State handle negotiations related to the Atomic Energy Commission and international relations. Written on White House stationery.

John Foster Dulles was the Secretary of State, 1953-1959. Lewis L. Strauss was the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, 1953–1958.
