Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed order to pay 1500 pounds for Angier's "Sufferings in the year 1759 - as mentd in his Petn." Authorized by order of the governor, Sir Francis Bernard. Cotton was then deputy secretary and would become secretary to the Stamp Act Congress the following year.
