Writes a friendly letter to Mrs. Greene, the widow of General Nathanael Greene. Is pleased to hear of her safe passage home, and reports on the well-being of several of her children who are in school or visiting New York. Mentions that Colonel [Jeremiah] Wadsworth has said that Mrs. Greene's son Nathanael is doing well. Knox and his wife Lucy send their love.

My dear Madam
Mortified as I was at not being here at the same time you were, I was still more so at your not receiving a letter I wrote from Boston and which my Brother forwarded to Charlestown
It was with great pleasure we heard of your safe arrival - as our apprehensions were greatly excited by a storm which happened soon after you sailed
I have written to your son by a Vessell [sic] which will sail tomorrow and enclosed him a letter from his sister at Bethlehem
Mr [Stevin?] [2] gave me the enclosed letters today from your daughters - He assures me that [they] are quite contented and greatly esteemed - That there are about twenty young Ladies there at present from Baltimore[,] Philadelphia[,] and New York - The old Gentleman has come here with the intention of sailing soon for Amsterdam -
Colonel Wadsworth who was lately here informed me that your son Nathanael was well & happy
I shall be glad to receive a line from you as your as your [comments?] may [illegible] and shall be always delighted to be able to [3] render you any service
Our little family have lately been afflicted with the measles but are all in a fair [illegible] of recovery - Mrs Knox joins me in [illegible] your every [felicity?] I am madam
