At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Two WWII letters that are unconnected by author or recipient. The first letter is by Jack Garber to Dorothy Kowosky dated October 16, 1941. The second letter is from D.A. Dooliule to Marianne Dooliule dated March 24, 1944. Both letters concern training camps for the air force.
