General Sheridan forwards a book (not included) of Indian illustrations supposedly found in Black Kettle's tent after Custer's 1868 victory over him "on the Washita in the Indian Country." The book illustrated the "heroic deeds of Black Kettle & his band, or at least some of his Warriors."
Bierstadt was a painter of grandiose scenes of the American West, including landscapes, animals and Indians.
