Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Part of an itemized list detailing each of the outlays of Livingston made for the Province of New York, totalling £5335 19 shillings 2 1/4 pence. The outlays included "Incidents" and Provisions for the Indians of the Five Nations , and "for Makeing 400 wheel Barrows to fortify Albany & Shinnectady."
