At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Excerpt of the magazine that includes pages 337-388. The Declaration of Independence is printed on p. 361-362. On p. 377 there is the continuation of an account of the proceedings of the American colonists. The beginning of the article is not present. Other articles concern Parliament, eclipses, book reviews, and additional items of interest. Magazine credited to Sylvanus Urban, printed by David Henry.

Sylvanus Urban was the pseudonym used by the first publisher of the Gentleman's Magazine, Edward Cave. After his death in 1754, the name Urban continued to be used by the following publishers. Henry printed the magazine from 1754-1788.
