Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Orders Colonel Storer to have the captains under his command make returns for Pepperrell. The returns should provide information on the men enlisted for the campaign against Canada during the French and Indian War. Those listed should appear on 17 April 1758 to be mustered in for service.

Pepperrell was a justice of the peace and representative of Kittery, Maine in the Massachusetts General Court.
Storer, a Harvard graduate, was a shipbuilder and merchant.
