Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This photograph is of a room that was turned into a war museum with memorbilia and statues from the war. On the left side there is a statue of a soldier whose sign reads "surrender." There are also many badges on display. This room is in what used to be a beautiful castle.
