Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Printed signature of Tyler below engraving. Published by Harper and Brothers, 82 Cliff-Street. Title page and first page of introductory not cut all the way through at the top right hand corner edge. Sewn and glued binding with 15 gatherings in octavo size. Front cover has become detached.
