At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Livingston's Petition to Governor Richard Coote, Earl of Bellomont, to receive time before the governor to plea his case against former Governor Fletcher's claims which prevented Livingston from being repaid any money by the crown. Bellomont's response was to request the presence of both Livingston and Fletcher on 16 May 1698, so as to decide upon Livingston's fate. Docketed on verso.
