The document explains that Mr. Franklin has been accused of violently forcing himself upon the estate of Robert van Deusen's son on the Manor of Livingston, and turning the said tenant out at gun point. When Robert Livingston, Jr. confronted Mr. Franklin on the matter, Mr. Franklin's men turned their guns on Livingston while Franklin declared that he would not leave unless he received orders from Governor Shirley. Shirley orders Franklin to desist, and threatens to address the situation with force, but notes: "I Cant But hope you will be wise enough to Correct your Error in the forcible Entry you have made by Removing out of the House quietly."
