Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Note written to certify the Revolutionary War service of a man whose name appears to be Thomas Slattery as Joseph Noyes's clerk in 1776 and 1777.
Similar content written on both sides of the document, with the handwriting on one side being much messier than the other. The neater side is signed by Thomas Noyes.
