Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Livingston petitions the Lord High Treasurer to receive "satisfaction" in return for victualling the four companies garrisoned at Albany, claiming to have victualled those four companies from 24 December 1699 to 24 April 1700 without having received any compensation for his expenditures.
