Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The "freeholders and farmers of the City and County of Albany," due to their displeasure at the manner in which they are treated by the Provincial Government, have created a petition to be signed by themselves as well as those of neighboring counties, to be sent to the King and House of Commons. This petition, while stating the "corruptions of the assemblies & Maladministration of the Government," would make certain to remind the King of his subjects' sincrest loyalty and affetions.
