Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

"...de la guerre qui a procure l'independance aux Etats Unis de l'Amerique." 16 engraved copper plates of revolutionary designs by Godefroy, Fauvel, Wiliam, Laussan, and le Paon. Prints include Lexington, Saratoga, and Yorktown. Other designs depict world events including Dominque, Senegal, Grenada, Pensacola, Tobago, St. Eusthanasius, Ft. St. Phiippe and "Brimstonhill." Also includes maps showing colonies, population spread and an allegorical precis of the treaty of peace.
