Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Philip states that he will be lighting the furnace in a week, and asks if Robert, Jr. needs anything made. He remarks that he will need someone to act as clerk and stove keeper at the furnace, and gives some suggestions for loading the Jamaica Packet. P.3 is a "Memorandum for moulds for Cart boxes."
