Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Walter states that John Adams has been elected to be a minister for the Court of London, and is also a minister at the Hague. Additionally, Walter supports his father's decision to take legal action against Robert Livingston (1746-1813) in order to maintain his property rights. Docketed on address leaf.
