Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

. . . Indians of the 5 Nations & Particularly of the message sent to them from the Gov[ernor] of Canada." The document expresses alarm at the presence of a Jesuit Millet among the 5 Nations, who remains in correspondence with the French, and is thought to be a part of a plot to attack the 5 Nations. P.3 contains articles from the Jesuit Millet's letter to De Dellins, dated 26 July 1693. Docketed on recto.
