Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Lieutenant Greenman gives testimony regarding Lieutenant [Joseph] Wheaton. Describes a conflict between Wheaton and Lieutenant Pratt. Wheaton ordered Pratt to take command of a company, threatening to arrest him if he refused. Also complains that Wheaton sold supplies, including handkerchiefs, he received from Albany. Related to GLC02437.02880, thus possibly created circa 1783.
