Kansas Professional Development: 20th-Century Native American History for Middle & High School Teachers

The Gilder Lehrman Institute is pleased to invite Kansas middle and high school teachers to participate in a free 2-hour professional development workshop on Native American Tribal Sovereignty in the 20th Century. The session will feature a 45-minute lecture and 15-minute Q&A with Professor Kiara Vigil (Amherst College) followed by a 1-hour pedagogy session with Master Teacher Rebecca Luebker.

  • Scholar Lecture: "Citizenship and Sovereignty in 20th-Century Native American History"
  • Pedagogy Workshop: "Dawes to Burke to McGirt: Tribal Sovereignty, 1887–2020"

Workshop participants will receive a $50 stipend and a free copy of Indigenous Intellectuals: Sovereignty, Citizenship, and the American Imagination, 1880-1930 by Kiara Vigil. Please note that books and stipends will be sent to the addresses entered at registration.
