BRAXTON BRAGG was a Confederate general during the Civil War. In the spring of 1861, he found himself stationed on the opposite side of Pensacola Bay from his longtime friend and military comrade, Union General Henry J. Hunt. Their letters to each other clarify the political and social tumult of the times by reducing the epic scale of the American Civil War to human proportions. Bragg survived the war and settled in Galveston, Texas. Get transcript
