EBENEZER PEARCE was born in London, England, in 1834, and later emigrated to Ohio. He enlisted in the United States Army as a private in July 1861, and was discharged in January of 1864, having served for most of the war. In this letter, Pearce reminisces with his sister about holiday meals, displaying the soldier’s universal preoccupation with food. Get transcript
