SIDNEY DIAMOND was born in 1922. He was a student
at City College, New York City, when Pearl Harbor was
bombed, and felt it was his duty to enlist. Diamond became
a first lieutenant, fought on several islands in the Pacific,
and was killed at Luzon. He won a Silver Star posthumously
for his "courage, skill, and determination"
in the fighting at Luzon. He wrote almost every day to
his sweetheart, Estelle Spero. The letter shown here is
the next-to-last that he wrote. Get
