Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Uriah Alverson countersigned as Justice of the Peace and certifies on reverse that Olney and Joshua Shrefe swore to tell the truth. Olney and Shrefe give testimony regarding the location of a fence they helped John Bellon build 23 years ago because the matter has come up in a court case.
