They have not been paid. Dick Emmonds died of the measles yesterday. He misses his family and hopes the war will end soon.

Dear Wife
I recived yours of the 28th inst to day and was glad [struck: illegible] to here that you are all well I am as well as usual we marched yesterday about 22 miles and I am a little sore to day we expected to get some mony [sic] to day but the pay master is not paying any to the 31 of August so the new troops will not get any pay now. I do not know how we are going to pay our taxes if I do not [get] any pay in time I will send a little mony [sic] to you as fast as I can get it[.] I have heard that Phil has got home[.] I am glad he has come home to help [struck: him] Father, he needs him so bad[.] Dick Emmens is dead[.] he died with the measles yesterday at Collierville[;] there has been severel cases of the measles in the regt[.] we expect to [move] from here to morrow[.] we do not [know] where we are going but we expect to go down the river I will write when we stop again the Oficers [sic] expect to get some mony [sic] if they do [2] I will get some money for washing and if I do I will send some of it home[.] I got a letter from Jesse Hawes to day he is at Helena [illegible strikeout] I sent fifty cts the middle [sic] of last week I hope the war will close before long[.] I am sick of soldiering[.] we have not had but two mails in a month[.] you wrote about looking for letters[.] I know how that is[.] I could not sleep night thinking about home when I could not get any letters[.] I did not think I should miss my little family so much but the time goes fast and if I am luck[y] enough to get home it will not be long I hope, tell Phill to write to me[.] I have not got any letter from Fri yet[.] tell him to write[.] write as often as you can with out fail[.] Dock Jones wants me to put a tongue in his wagon so I must close this time[.] this from your affecenate husband
