Original negative ca. April 1865, discovered in the 1890s by Meserve, 79 Leonard Street, NYC and published. This is a Meserve print. This was likely reprinted in the 1940s. Inscription on verso indicates the photo was taken when Lincoln visited, just before the surrender of Lee at Appomattox on Apr 9, 1865.
