Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Orders Lieutenant Briggs to proceed to the towns of Rutfield, New Fairfield, Danbury, Reding, and Newton, Connecticut. States the Briggs should give orders to all officers, doctors, and soldiers belonging to the 5th regiment to return immediately as Waterbury has orders to march to Albany right away. Lists six officers absent from camp that Briggs should order to return.
