Johnston, Colonel of the Second Cavalry Regiment, writes to Cooper, Adjutant General of the United States Army. Johnston specifies that Lieutenant Colonel William Hardee should be assigned to purchase horses for the mounting of the regiment. Notes that Hardee will be accompanied by an officer from the Quartermaster General's department, to forward the horses to Jefferson Barracks.
