Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Encloses a copy of a resolution of Congress (not present) stating that 530 beef cattle are needed for the use of the Continental Army. Stresses that this order needs to be carried out immediately to avoid dire consequences. Docketed, "letter to the receivers."

Rodney was a delegate to the Continental Congress from Delaware 1774-1777. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and President of Delaware from December 1777 to November 1781.
