Gov Pettus
Dear Sir,
Our Legislature is in session; we will have harmonious action. Lincoln is elected beyond doubt, we must promptly meet the issues presented. Do not ask for a southern council as the Border & non acting states would out vote us & strictly defeat acting. Let your state immediately assemble in convention. South Carolina aspires to lead the [cause?]. Our convention will be ordered tomorrow or next day certain.
We have opened the Ball, all our Federal officers have resigned. Federal Judge, attorney, marshals, collectors &c.
I send you papers, indicating our action & sentiment.
South Carolina leads the way, will not Mississippi stand by her side?
