At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Resolved.
That his Excellency, the Governor, be requested to communicate to this House if not incompatible with the Public interest, what measures he has adopted for the security of our sea coast - except - that portion near Charleston, and what provisions he has made to prevent or oppose any hostile invasion of the same.

Resolved. that the House do agree to this Resolution.
