McLane discusses assisting Henry Jackson Hunt. Possibly referring to a bill Hunt attempted to pass regarding military retirement pay, remarks "I will help Hunt all I can when the committees are organized I will see the chairman of the Military Committee and ascertain [how?] & where I can do the work... " McLane served as a United States Representative from Maryland 1847-1850 and 1879-1883, and Governor of Maryland 1883-1885. General Mackall served as chief-of-staff under Generals Braxton Bragg and Joseph E. Johnston, among other posts. Written on McLane's law office stationery.
