Possibly to General George Henry Sharpe of New York. Discusses a bill to be introduced to the Senate that would grant Hunt the rank of Major General on the retired list. States that his friend, Senator "B." of South Carolina (possibly Matthew Calbraith Butler), could appeal to Senator "C." to encourage passage of the bill. Referring to Senator John Alexander Logan, of the Committee on Military Affairs, notes "I have learned that strong pressure has been brought upon the chairman of the Com. Sen. Logan- by way of friends of mine, and this in most cases was spontaneous and unknown to me at the time." Discusses which Senators he assumes will or will not vote for passage of the bill. Expects passage, since the House of Representatives approved the bill 127 to 58. Notes that retirement as Major General would increase his pay, and feels that he and his family are entitled to this compensation.
