Colonel Scammon of the 23rd Ohio regiment writes General Cox, division commander in Charleston. Reports that it is urgent that troops be sent to Princeton, West Virginia. States, "Now is the time to save men from going into the rebel army under compulsion. 1000 men can do now what will take 10,000 a week later." Battle of Princeton Courthouse took place on May 15 - May 17 1862.
