Colonel Scammon of the 23rd Ohio regiment writes to General Cox, the division commander at Charleston. Discusses an impending movement of the troops. Informs that the roads are bad but passable. Writes what horses and supplies they have for the artillery and cavalry transport. Will inform him of the road to Wytheville as they go and states of the route, "The one indicated by you is certainly the shortest, & I am told, the best." Year inferred from Scammon's rank as Colonel.
