Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partly printed document also signed by Ez[echial?] Williams, Elizer Warner and Samuel Barker. Concerns the financial arrangement for Samuel Barker and Elizer Warner to raise (and Warner to serve as Captain of) a Continental battalion for Connecticut during the American Revolution.

Jesse Root (1737-1822) was a Continental Congressman from Connecticut.
