Dear Sir
The difficulty of getting any sort of work done in this Country for want of artificers, is so great, that there is far greater reason for the Artillery's having a corps of artificiers with them, than there is to the northward, where artificers may be had with so little difficulty. besides, the artificers belonging to the Quarter Master's Department are very few, and of an indifferent kind. I wish therefore it were possible for you to send to our relief a few [2] Carpenters & Smiths, and such others as you know to be necessary; The public service will be greatly promoted by it, and your department better enabled to do their duty.
