Written by Ogden, the owner of an important iron works that supplied munitions to the Continental Army, to Major General Knox. Acknowledges Knox's friendly letter "in favor of my friend Wilkins." Hopes Knox will persevere in his plan of settling in New York or New Jersey. Ogden says he is leaning toward living in New York City. Says he has "fixed my Eye on a situation" and will see if it works out in the next few months. Says he would like to visit Knox, but that Mrs. Ogden's "situation" prevents them from coming until November. Congratulates Knox on the birth of a new child. Says "Your little God-Daughter has been very Ill; But is happily recovered." Slight text loss at the end of page 3 where the seal was removed, but it does not affect the main content of the letter.
