Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Henry Knox is renting the house and grounds on the Schuylkill River called Fairy Hill. The one year lease begins on 1 May and is for £100 and taxes. The gardener will remain in the small house on the premises as long as he cares for the garden and furnishes the Knox family with free vegetables.
