Four parts. First part written in Boston, Massachusetts to Major Lemuel Trescott "to be communicated to Mr. Nathan Jones." Dated 12 March 1792. Writes that "[y]ou will please to proceed to Frenchmans Bay and with Mr. Nathan Jones endeavor to effect the purchase on my Acct. agreeable to the Inclosed Instructions directed to Mr. P. Bruce, Mr. Nathan Jones and yourself - " Goes on to say that the land must be looked after. Would like them to let him know any information they might have. Second part written in Trenton, New Jersey to Nathan Jones and Phineas Bruce. Dated 19 October 1791. Asks them to help him with some business in purchasing land. Third part written in Boston, Massachusetts. Dated 12 March 1792. Mentions that Trescott, Jones and Bruce are joined "in the written Instructions as also in the purchase of the Farm in No S as mentioned in my Letter ... " Fourth part written in the same place and on the same date as the third. States that "I do hereby authorize and impower you to purchase of Col. Nathan Jones of Gouldsborough a Tract of Land in Trenton Frenchmans Bay, the said Tract contains about seven or eight thousand acres and lies West on Union River and East on Jordan River is the same Land Deeded him ... " Goes on to discuss how he went about finding the land and purchasing it. Includes a post script. Watermarked "L Paine" and with a hunting horn inside a crest.
