Stephens, Confederate Vice President, informs an unknown recipient that John Thomas Dawson of the 3rd Alabama Regiment was wounded in the Battle of Seven Pines, Virginia (31 May -1 June 1862), and has been since unable to perform field duty. Notes that Dawson's injury consists of a lame ankle. Remarks that Dawson is from an excellent family, and requests that other departmental heads in Richmond to consider adding Dawson to their staff.
